Philosophy: Why is death scary?

A few friends and myself were talking about Dragon Ball Z and how it made so little sense as things progressed. This topic is about one of the stranger, but more overlooked, inconsistencies.
Who cares if you die? When you die, you go to the otherworld. You could destroy the whole damn universe and your still 'fine'. The character kept doing everything they could to wish people back over and over again, what's the point?

There is also the interesting fact that it's almost impossible to die in the first place, assuming you have at LEAST a first name. Take Freeza for example.
First he gets severed into parts, then he gets blasted by a ONE ARM HAND BEAM (the ONLY way to kill ANYTHING in that show), falls into some lava, and then the planet he was on explodes. He somehow still survives.
Repeat that in your head as fast as you can. Its quite funny once you think about it.

First, I do believe MOST people who go to other world do not get to keep their bodies, especially if they go to hell. Instead they just look like little clouds. Goku got to keep his body because he was such a great guy.

As for how hard it is for people to do, I believe this is one of those things that is not worth trying to rationalize. It's fantasy.

In other words, if Goku was just like "Screw it all, I don't care if I die" then the plot would suck. Anyway, the Z fighters have responsibilities to withhold, so they can't just go around getting killed by enemies all willy nilly.... lol.

Also, if the characters in DBZ where easily killed, then the show would be pretty boring.

Death is scary for a very simple and obvious reason. Those who it was not scary enough to, they died. Young. Before reproducing. End of their contribution to the gene pool. No religion or philosophy involved. Whatever might actually HAPPEN after one dies is irrelevant. What I believe on this matter is irrelevant to the matter, and you can believe what you want. You can believe it's just as it is in DBZ (does anyone actually believe this? People believe some strange things) for all the difference it makes, but the fact is, your ancestors were survivors, and it will take a lot of willpower to say, commit suicide, or give your life for your country, or whatever you have in mind for your facing your end, becuase it is in your BLOOD to avoid facing it as long as possible.

look at it the pleasureable way ok?? If your dead you become a cloud unless youve saved the planet more then once. so most of us would become clouds. and think we would be like ....only my head but can float. try to picture not more than a floating head. that isa how a cloud must feel.
